Softbank Hawks pitcher Rick van den Hurk closes season long fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House, raises over $10,000 USD through online auction of sports items.
Beginning in late May, van den Hurk began a 4 month long fundraiser by offering items via his social media channels. Followers were able to bid actively with the highest bidder winning the listed items.
Items auctioned included items from MLB player Adam Jones, Ricks’ personal game-used items, jersey’s and bats from the Korean Baseball Organization and Nippon Professional Baseball. Along with the items, bids and winners came from around the world. Japan committed over $6,500 USD to the initiative with each the Netherlands, Korea and United States providing more than $1,000 USD respectively.
Rick and his wife, Anna will be donating all of the raised funds to the Ronald McDonald House and independent locations of the charity based upon where the funds had come from. The concept was created by the alignment and embodiment of Ronald McDonald House’s goal of bringing families together in the toughest of circumstances.
“Having that feeling of togetherness has always been important to Anna and I, it’s been even more so since the birth of our son Ryan. We believe that our feelings are amplified by Ronald McDonald House and wanted to contribute the best way we could,” Rick stated.
About Ronald McDonald House
The Ronald McDonald house creates a safe secure environment for families, where they can stay with their child in care. It’s a “Home-away-from-home” for children hospitalized far from home as well as their families. In other words, they are accommodations for families staying close to their children undergoing medical treatment. These houses are supported by contributions and volunteer participation.
About Rick van den Hurk
Rick van den Hurk (born in The Netherlands, May 22nd, 1985) is a Dutch professional baseball pitcher currently playing for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in Japan in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). The last 7 years he won 6 championships in Asia. He became Korean Series champion in 2013 and 2014. And the last 5 years in Japan, he won the Japan Series 4 times (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019).
Rick started his professional career in the USA when he was 16 years old. He played in Major League Baseball for the Florida Marlins, Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates. In the KBO League he pitched for the Samsung Lions. In international play, he is a member of the Netherlands national baseball team and played in the World Baseball Classic (2009 & 2017).

リック・バンデンハーク(1985年5月22日オランダ生まれ)は日本野球機構の福岡ソフトバンクホークスに所属するオランダ人のプロ野球選手です。過去7年間でアジアだ6度の優勝に輝く。2013,2014韓国シリーズ優勝。過去5年で4度の日本シリーズ優勝(2015,2017,2018,2019) 16歳の時にアメリカでプロ野球選手としてのキャリアを始める。MLB フロリダ・マーリンズ、ボルティモア・オリオールズ、ピッツバーグ・パイレーツ、KBO サムソン・ライオンズでプレーしました。オランダ代表としてワールドベースボールクラシックにも出場(2009,2017)
